The dancing kicks off with Jafra, the Artas Folklore Center's own troupe, winner of many awards. The troupe, which had gone to Jericho a couple of weeks before the festival on a group outing and had brought their costumes with them, found themselves unexpectedly saving the day at a festival there, when overhearing that a scheduled troupe did not show up. And when I attended the First International Bird Migration Festival in Jericho several parties expressed their desire to participate in the festival. Some of them got their wish!

Training these youngsters is Abu Lutfi, an Artas farmer who brings much life to Artas and the Artas Folklore Center. At last year's festival, he wrote and directed an "agricultural drama" highlighting the challenges to Artas farmers. Visitors especially enjoy hearing his recollections of growing up in the house which is now the Artas Folklore Museum. Developing this museum by adding to and documenting the contents and developing exciting ways for visitors to experience it, is one of the goals of the Artas Folklore Center.
