The Monastery of St. George (Choziba) is a few kilometers from Jericho along the valley known as Wadi Kelt. The Greek-Orthodox monastery is open to visitors and is richly decorated and quite serene. At the time of our visit it was occupied by only 2 monks.
It is buit at the cave in which Elias was said to have wanted to perish but was fed by a raven who brought him food.
Wadi Kelt is a spectacular valley which runs through the West Bank to Jericho on the eastern border of Palestine. There is a marked walking track along its length which leads past the Monastery of St. George..
