Family originally from Bethlehem.

The Honourable John J. Issa is Executive Chairman of Superclubs International Ltd. and its subsidiaries. In 1976, he introduced the first all inclusive club hotel into the local tourism industry with the development of Negril Beach Village (now Hedonism II) and Couples Hotel.

Mr. Issa became a Director of GraceKennedy Limited. on April 29, 1982. He also serves as a Director on the Board of the Gleaner Company Ltd., the Jamaica Stock Exchange and Globe Insurance Company of the West Indies Ltd., and is Chairman of the Board of the Pegasus Hotels of Jamaica Ltd. He has served as President of the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association from 1972 to 1974, and was Chairman of several organisations including the Jamaica Tourist Board, Jamaica Vacations Ltd., Jamaica Reservation Service and St. Ann Development Co. Ltd. He has been accredited as Tourism Consultant by the World Bank since 1979.

He received the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander in 1983 and the Order of Jamaica in 1989 from the Government of Jamaica. He was named Man of the Decade of the 1980s by Investors’ Choice, one of Jamaica’s leading business magazines. The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, in 1990, named him Hotelier of the Year, and in 1993 he received the International Achievement Award from the American Friends of Jamaica. He was twice named Caribbean Hotelier of the year – First by the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) in 1994 and then by the Travel Agent Magazine in 1996. The Northern Caribbean University, in 1999, bestowed on him an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. In May 2001 the Brazilian Government honoured him with the Order of the Southern Cross (Officer Rank). In January 2002, the University of the West Indies bestowed on him the Legacy Award of Caribbean Luminary.

He attended College of the Holy Cross in the USA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Business Administration..
